Graduated from Riga Maritime College in 1979 and Leningrad’s (St. Petersburg’s) Admiral Makarov High Maritime Academy in 1989. Got a diploma of Engineer – Navigator. Since 1980 was working at sea on board of various types & sizes of vessels in Latvian Shipping Company, Acomarit, Havtor MS AS.
